It’s that time of the year where we get to spoil the
wonderful staff at PLMS. This year’s theme is “Dining Around The
World”. Please contact Daniela Colter at daniela.colter@comcast.net
or Rose Dunn at rosiedunn@comcast.net if you are able to help. We
will send the details to you. Thank you!
Outstanding
Educator Award Nominations
Do you know an individual who has gone above and beyond
the normal scope of their job to provide outstanding educational
opportunities to the youth of our school community? That person
could be a future recipient of the Outstanding Educator Award.
Please help us recognize this individual by nominating him or her
for an Outstanding Educator Award. To learn more about the
nomination process, please refer to the form at the end of this
newsletter. The form is very short -- only a few questions. All
nominations are due by Friday, April 18,
2008.

Golden
Acorn Winners
Tami DeVita, active on the
PTSA Board of Directors as VP of Fundraising this year, she has
also chaired the Hoe Down and worked in many capacities at school.
Whenever help is needed, she is there with a smile and
encouragement.
As chair of the Community Outreach Committee of the PTSA, JoAnn
Spears has spent 8 years scheduling and coordinating student
volunteers for the hot meals program for the needy in Issaquah and
the sack lunch program. She is always there to help with a
gracious, kind and compassionate attitude.
Stacy Smith has been an active volunteer at PLMS for 5 years in
many capacities, and has worked as Health Room Coordinator for
many of those years. She juggles the monthly schedules of all of
her volunteers and puts in many more hours herself working in the
health room. She regularly volunteers in many capacities at PLMS.
Suzie Wiley has devoted almost a decade of her time to PLMS,
volunteering in so many capacities within the PTSA, but she is
best known for her skillfulness at getting matching funds for
donations to the PTSA. She is a tireless volunteer and always
ready to lend a hand wherever it is needed.
Eight years ago, Judy Calcote began volunteering at PLMS and has
continued to volunteer even after her own kids have moved on to
high school. She can now be seen every week in the library,
shelving books, and working on special projects. She is also a
skillful and successful grant writer for PLMS, bringing in
thousands of dollars for the library and for curricular enrichment
materials.
Lisa Bialek has been a volunteer at PLMS for many years in nearly
every volunteer capacity available, from volunteering for the 6th
grade picnic, Vision/Hearing Screening to organizing the car wash
during Staff Appreciation Week. She has worked tirelessly as
Newsletter Editor for several years and does all of this with an
amazing sense of humor and a positive attitude.
Outstanding Advocate Winners
Jeff and Judy Bowlby have dedicated their time and energy to
advocate for the youth of our community by working with the SAMA
(Science and Management of Addictions) Foundation, to spread
awareness and knowledge about the problem of teenage alcohol and
drug use. Through speaking engagements at PLMS and other community
events, they have courageously shared their tragic personal story
of the loss of their oldest son, in the hopes of preventing this
from happening to other youth in our community. PLMS salutes the
Bowlby's for their courage, strength and determination to make a
difference in our community.

PTSA MEMBERSHIP:
As
many of you may know, PLMS has hit the 100% participation mark for
more years than can be remembered. (This means the number of
adults who have joined the PTSA is equal or greater than the
current student population.) Let's continue this tradition and if
you haven't turned in your membership form yet, we'd appreciate
it! Or if some of your spouses neglected to join this year, you
can "upgrade" and add him or her for $8. There are extra forms in
the office for you to pick up or you may contact either one of us.
Thanks to all of
you for improving the education, safety and health of our kids.
Sincerely, your Membership Chairs Daniela Colter - daniela.colter@comcast.net

Five Reasons to Join Pine Lake PTSA
-
I just don’t have the time to (or I don’t want to)
volunteer but I want to show my support.
-
I want to volunteer and get more involved.
-
I understand that a large membership helps give
credence to our, the PTSA’s, voice when advocating for our
students with the Legislature.
-
I want to join the other 900+ Parents and
Staff who have already pledged their support.
-
I want/need a student directory.
Student of the Month
Many parents have asked us, "What is Student of the Month and how
are the students chosen?" Here is the skinny: each month all of
the teachers choose one of their students who have shown academic
achievement or responsibility. The category alternates each month
so all students have an equal opportunity to shine! Once they are
chosen they are recognized with a certificate in the library given
to them by Mr. Adler. Then, during their lunch that day they come
to our table in the cafeteria for their "goodies" which vary from
homemade cookies, Italian soda's, caramel corn, brownies, etc. So,
tell your kids to work hard in class because we'd love to see them
at our lunch table!
